"La Rentrée" can be compared to the English expression
"Back to School". However, it is important to note that
"La Rentrée" for the French implies not only students returning to their studies, but rather a massive return for everyone to their "normal" routines and responsibilities. Businesses that had closed their doors during the month of August reopen them, employees go back to their jobs, and entire families return to their homes, leaving memories of the seaside, the mountains, and other distant places visited, behind. Cities that during the month of August were mostly occupied by tourists, bustle again with their native inhabitants and everyday life resumes.
